In 1939, amidst the echoes of bouncing basketballs and the cheers of eager fans, the seeds of March Madness were planted. It was a modest affair, with just eight teams invited to compete in the inaugural NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Held at Patten Gymnasium in Evanston, Illinois, this historic event culminated in Oregon emerging victorious, defeating Ohio State 46-33 in the championship game.

Although there were no buzzer-beaters or Cinderella stories in that first tournament, it laid the foundation for what would become a cultural phenomenon. Today, March Madness captivates millions of fans worldwide, with 68 teams battling it out over three weeks of intense competition.
